Illiteracy rates in Peru, particularly among adults in rural areas, are high. The Department of La Libertad within Trujillo is one of the many departments that has not reached the national average in literacy. Through our project, we aim to change the rate of illiteracy by providing daily literacy classes at no cost. The components will focus on teaching functional lecture, writing and basic mathematics. Improved literacy can benefit one’s economic situation, self-esteem, and ability to learn new skills. These benefits are only a few from the long list of benefits. This project also promotes a space where participants can learn and discuss about political issues at the local and national level to raise awareness and encourage advocacy. Together we can impact the lives of many adults and give them the second chance to an education.
