In the health and medical program, volunteers are placed in government low-income hospitals, clinics or care facilities. Volunteers will shadow healthcare professionals to experience the daily practice of medicine in Peru. Based on experience and level of education, volunteers will be able to assist doctors or nurses in medical procedures under their supervision. Volunteers can expect to work in a hands-on environment alongside doctors or nurses. The day-to-day tasks vary, but those tasks include assessing vital signs, patient education, vaccinations, and other daily clinical tasks as needed. The following specialties are requiring volunteers: nursing, doctors, nutritionist, dentistry, psychologist and obstetricians

Our project also includes weekly clinical classes taught by an English speaking Peruvian Physician that will prepare the volunteers for their worksite and medical campaign. At the end of the project, we will have a medical campaign where volunteers will be able to use their skills and knowledge gained throughout the project. This project will allow volunteers to experience the Peruvian health care system with the limited resources available to provide the best medical care. This a great experience for medical, pre-med and all other health professionals students. Volunteers will be placed in a clinic or hospital that will best suit their experience and interests based on the application.
