  • WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO VOLUNTEER?

    As a non-profit organization ICHANGE projects are financed almost entirely by your contribution. Also the fee will cover cost for housing, transportation, materials, activities and donations to your worksite. The fee also contributes to the continuance of our long sustainable projects.

  • DO I NEED TO SPEAK SPANISH?

    Spanish is not a requirement for most of our projects but we do recommend to learn basic phrases before your arrival. We will try to combine volunteers at homestays and worksites with higher level of Spanish with those with a lower level.

  • DOES MY HOST FAMILY OR WORKSITE STAFF SPEAK ENGLISH?

    Our coordinators in Peru do have an intermediate level of English. But staff at worksites (clinics, schools, communities) do not speak English. Some host families have a basic level of English but mostly likely you will need to communicate in Spanish.

  • HOW MUCH SPENDING MONEY WILL I NEED?

    The amount you will be spending depends on your activities outside our projects. We usually recommend from $300-$500 extra for spending money.

  • CAN I GET COLLEGE CREDIT?

    We are not affiliated with any university but if approved by your advisor you can email us any forms that need to be completed to get internship hours or college credit.

  • DO I NEED TO HAVE CLINICAL EXPERIENCE TO APPLY FOR THE CLINIC AND HEALTH?

    Clinical experience is not required to be accepted into our Clinic and Health program. Your assigned worksite will be based on your experience and education make sure you list it on your application. All clinical procedures performed by volunteers are required to be under the supervision of a physician or nurse.

  • WHAT VACCINATIONS ARE REQUIRED?

  • WHAT IS THE WEEKLY ITINERARY?

    The schedule varies depending on your project but you are required to work up to 5 hours a day Monday thru Friday. We plan activities for our volunteers on the weekend but if you do not wish to participate lets us know in advance.

  • WILL I NEED TO PURCHASE AN INTERNATIONAL PLAN FOR MY CELLPHONE?

    You need to contact your wireless carrier for information on international plans. Your homestay will have WIFI for you to communicate with your family. You can also purchase a prepaid cell phone for a reasonable price in Peru.

  • CAN I CONTACT A PREVIOUS VOLUNTEER FOR FEEDBACK?

    We can provide your email address to our previous volunteers to contact you and share their experience abroad.

  • WHICH AIRPORT AND WHEN DO I HAVE TO ARRIVE TO PERU?

    When purchasing your flight you will need to arrive two days before the project start date to Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, Peru. Our staff or driver will pick you up upon your arrival. If you are unable to arrive on the indicated dates please contact our staff.

  • DO I NEED A VISA? WHERE CAN I GET MY VISA?
