As a non-profit organization ICHANGE projects are financed almost entirely by your contribution. Also the fee will cover cost for housing, transportation, materials, activities and donations to your worksite. The fee also contributes to the continuance of our long sustainable projects.
Spanish is not a requirement for most of our projects but we do recommend to learn basic phrases before your arrival. We will try to combine volunteers at homestays and worksites with higher level of Spanish with those with a lower level.
Our coordinators in Peru do have an intermediate level of English. But staff at worksites (clinics, schools, communities) do not speak English. Some host families have a basic level of English but mostly likely you will need to communicate in Spanish.
The amount you will be spending depends on your activities outside our projects. We usually recommend from $300-$500 extra for spending money.
We are not affiliated with any university but if approved by your advisor you can email us any forms that need to be completed to get internship hours or college credit.
Clinical experience is not required to be accepted into our Clinic and Health program. Your assigned worksite will be based on your experience and education make sure you list it on your application. All clinical procedures performed by volunteers are required to be under the supervision of a physician or nurse.
